What are Dynamic Product Settings?
Dynamic Product Settings are a collection of features that allow products to behave… (wait for it) ... dynamically.
To get into the specifics, Dynamic Product Settings allow merchants to showcase curated product images and prices per product list page (PLP) or variant selection. This allows a merchant to put a specific variant image or price front and center depending on the collection or variant the consumer is viewing.
For example, if a product has a variant on sale, and a consumer is viewing a ‘Sale’ collection, then they would expect to see the product image for the variant on sale when browsing that collection. Similarly, if the variants are quite drastic (such as rug shapes and sizes), then a merchant would expect to see the product image for the ‘runner’ rug variant when in the ‘Runners’ collection, as opposed to an arbitrary product image. All in all, it empowers merchants to add more context to their collections, by bringing the most logical product images front & center per collection.
Dynamic Product Settings also trickle down to the product detail page (PDP). Where you can apply settings to filter PDP gallery images depending on the variant you have selected. Allowing you to offer a more focused browsing experience.
Finally, Price Ranges are a related functionality that can be enabled in the Dynamic Product Settings area of the dashboard. Price Ranges allow consumers to see a total range of prices across variants, as opposed to a single price. They are powered by the price of variants set in Shopify.
How to Enable Dynamic Product Settings
Set Product Settings based on Matching Image Tags
Setting product settings based on matching image tags is the first way you can configure your settings to be dynamic. Enabling means that whenever a consumer visits a specific collection, they will see a specific variant photo & price on the PLP, regardless of the default photo & price for the product.
Steps
- Navigate to 'Settings' and select 'Dynamic Product'
- Flip the toggle to enable 'Set Product Settings based on Matching Image Tags'
- Next, enter each collection you would like to enable this behavior for and enter a corresponding image alt tag
- Important Note: The image alt tag is used by the app to grab the correct photo for the given selection. In the example below, if a consumer visits the 8x10 Area Rugs collection, then the app will display the variant photo that contains the alt tag on ‘8x10'
- Once completed, hit 'Save' and it's enabled
Set Product Images based on Lowest Cost Variant
Setting product images based on the lowest cost variant requires less work than its counterpart. For each enabled collection, the app will display the variant photo & price for the cheapest option. If multiple minimums exist, the app will show the first one returned by Shopify.
Steps
- Navigate to 'Settings' and select 'Dynamic Product'
- Flip the toggle to enable 'Set Product Settings based on Lowest Cost Variant'
- From here, enter each collection that should exhibit this behavior
- Once completed, hit 'Save' and you're all set!
Product Page Image Filtering
Product page image filtering allows you to filter the images shown in the PDP image gallery based on the selected variant. This is based on the image alt tag. When selecting a variant that has an image alt tag, then the gallery will be filtered to photos that also share that same tag.
Steps
- Navigate to 'Settings' and select 'Dynamic Product'
- Flip the toggle to enable 'Product Image Filtering'
- Once completed, hit 'Save' and you're all set!
