A/B Testing: Test and Optimize Your App

Updated over a week ago

A/B Testing in Tapcart allows you to test different versions of your app’s screens to see what performs best. Instead of guessing, you can make data-driven decisions about your app design, content, and merchandising strategy.

A/B Testing is only available for our Enterprise merchants.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B Testing lets you compare two different versions of the same screen in your app:

  • Variant A (Control): your existing screen.

  • Variant B (Test): the new version with changes you want to try (e.g., new banner, CTA, or layout adjustment).

Customers are split between the two versions, and Tapcart tracks performance metrics like conversion rate, revenue, and sessions.

How to Run an A/B Test

  1. Create a Variant

    • Go to App Studio and select the screen you want to test.

    • Duplicate your layout and make your changes (e.g., new banner image, different CTA placement).

  2. Create the Test

    • In the bottom right, select “Create a Test”.

    • Select your variants. By default, Control will be set to the version of the screen you were on when you created the test.

  3. Choose Your KPI

    • Select the primary metric you want to measure (Conversion Rate is recommended).

  4. Set Traffic Split

    • Choose how traffic is divided between A and B (default is 50/50).

  5. Start the Test

    • Click Start Test to launch the experiment.

    • Your customers will automatically be split between variants.

  6. Get Results

    • You can track conversions, revenue, sessions, and other key metrics while the test is running.

  7. Publish a Winner

    • Once your test has reached a large enough sample size, click Publish to send either variant to 100% of customers.

Best Practices

  • Run tests long enough: Wait for a meaningful sample size before making decisions.

  • Pick high-traffic screens: Start with Home or PDP for faster insights.

  • Make noticeable changes: Subtle or hidden changes (e.g. below the fold) will likely lead to inconclusive results.

Why This Matters

With A/B Testing, you can now:

  • Launch seasonal or promotional layouts with confidence.

  • Build apps that drive more revenue with continuous optimization.
