Testing Your App Within the Dashboard

The Tapcart dashboard includes a built-in app previewer that lets you see exactly how your app will look and function for your customers. Use it throughout the design process and before each app update to catch issues early.

In this article:

  • How to use the dashboard previewer

  • What to test

  • Previewer limitations

  • Next steps for device testing

How to Use the Dashboard Previewer

  1. Log in to your Tapcart dashboard

  2. Click the phone icon in the top-right corner

  3. Click Tap to Play

  4. The app will load in the previewer

The previewer renders a fully interactive version of your app that you can browse, navigate, and test.

What to Test

We recommend working through this checklist each time you make significant changes:

Navigation & layout

  • ☐ Home screen loads correctly with your featured content

  • ☐ Bottom navigation tabs work and lead to the correct screens

  • ☐ Collections appear in the correct order

  • ☐ Product pages display images, descriptions, variants, and pricing correctly

Checkout

  • ☐ Add a product to cart and verify the cart page looks correct

  • ☐ Complete a test purchase to verify your payment provider works with the native checkout

  • ☐ Verify discount codes apply correctly

  • ☐ Verify shipping options display as expected

Integrations & custom content

  • ☐ Custom Blocks render correctly (if using Developer Tools)

  • ☐ Web Bridge pages load and display properly

  • ☐ Loyalty, reviews, or other integrated widgets appear as expected

Tip: We highly recommend completing at least one test purchase to confirm your checkout flow works end-to-end. You can refund the order afterward.

Previewer Limitations

The dashboard previewer is great for design review and basic functionality testing, but it has some limitations:

  • Push notifications cannot be tested in the previewer. You will need to use a real device with TestFlight (iOS) or internal test track (Android)

  • Performance may differ from a real device. The previewer runs in a browser, which doesn't perfectly replicate native app performance

  • Deep links and universal links cannot be tested in the previewer

  • Biometric features (Face ID, fingerprint) are not available in the previewer

For a complete test of the real user experience, follow up with testing on actual devices.

Next Steps: Device Testing

After testing in the dashboard, we recommend testing on real devices:
