What Is Stay AI?

Stay AI is an AI-driven subscription and retention platform built for Shopify brands. Unlike basic subscription tools, Stay treats subscriptions as a performance channel using machine learning models that learn from shopper behavior to help brands acquire more subscribers, reduce churn, and increase lifetime value. Its fully customizable, no-code customer portal includes built-in revenue-driving features like product upsell carousels, banner ads, and smart cancellation flows.

The Stay AI + Tapcart integration brings the subscriber portal directly into your mobile app, giving customers full subscription management alongside revenue-generating all within the native app experience.

Standard Subscription Management

Subscribers can perform all core self-service actions within the app.

  • Banner Ads: Merchants upload banner creative highlighting products or discounts; customers tap to add featured items as one-time add-ons

  • Product Carousel: A browsable carousel of merchant-curated products that subscribers can add as one-time or recurring items

  • Add Extras: A pop-up modal for adding additional one-time or recurring items to an upcoming order

  • Discount Codes: Subscribers can apply discount codes to upcoming orders, shareable via email, SMS, or portal banner ads

  • Modify Frequency: Subscribers adjust how often they receive shipments, choosing from merchant-defined frequency options

How to Connect

  1. Install the Web Bridge SDK: Add the Web Bridge SDK to your Stay customer portal page.

  2. Enable Multipass: Activate the Shopify Multipass integration in your Tapcart dashboard (Shopify Plus required).

  3. Create a Custom Screen: In your Tapcart dashboard, go to App Studio β†’ Custom Screens β†’ Create a Custom Screen. Enter the screen title and paste your Stay portal URL. Set authentication to Yes. Reference the Custom Screen documentation for full setup details.

  4. Link the screen in-app: Add the Custom Screen to your app's account page, bottom navigation, or homepage banner.

  5. Enable Subscription Checkouts: Turn on Subscription Checkouts in your Dashboard settings to pull in Shopify Selling Plans for subscription products.

Customer Experience

When a subscriber opens the Custom Screen, they see Stay's fully branded customer portal that is identical to the mobile web experience. From there they can manage orders, browse the product carousel, interact with banner ads, apply discounts, and adjust delivery settings. For brands using RetentionEngine, customers who attempt to cancel are guided through a personalized retention flow with targeted incentives before the cancellation is processed.

Shopify Plus vs. Standard Shopify for Legacy Accounts

Authentication behavior differs depending on your Shopify plan when using Legacy customer accounts. The Legacy accounts are being phased out by Shopify.

Note: Shopify's New customer accounts pass authentication automatically to custom screens without additional setup.

  • Shopify Plus: Supports Multipass with Legacy accounts, which automatically passes the customer's login session from the Tapcart app into the Custom Screen. Customers sign in once and access the subscription portal seamlessly.

  • Standard Shopify: Multipass is not available. Customers must log in separately within the Custom Screen, and sessions do not persist between the native app and the portal.

Troubleshooting

  • Portal shows a blank screen: Verify the Web Bridge SDK is installed on the Stay AI portal page and that the Custom Screen URL is correct. Test the URL in a mobile browser first.

  • Banner ads or product carousel not appearing: These features are configured in the Stay AI merchant portal. Confirm that banner creative and carousel products have been set up in your Stay dashboard.

  • RetentionEngine flows not triggering: Ensure RetentionEngine is enabled in your account and that the cancellation flow has been configured in the Stay AI merchant portal.
