What is Loop Subscriptions?
Loop Subscriptions is a subscription platform for Shopify merchants. Loop runs subscribe-and-save programs, bundles and the subscriber portal, which shoppers use to manage their upcoming orders. Tapcart integrates with Loop so your app's signed-in customers can open their Loop subscriber portal inside the app, without a second login.
Why Loop + Tapcart?
Shoppers can buy subscriptions in your app and manage them without leaving it. Tapcart signs the customer in to Loop on their behalf, so the portal opens already showing their subscriptions.
What functionality does the Loop integration unlock?
Subscription purchasing
Subscribe-and-save options on the product page through Shopify Selling Plans
Mixed carts of one-time and subscription products
Checkout through your standard Shopify checkout
Subscription management
A Manage Subscriptions button on the customer's account screen
One tap opens the customer's Loop subscriber portal inside the app, already signed in. There's no email link or one-time code.
Everything your Loop portal allows (skip, reschedule, swap, edit address, cancel and more) works exactly as it does on your website
Signed-out customers see a Sign In button instead. Signed-in customers with no subscriptions see a disabled No Subscriptions Found button, or no button, depending on your settings.
Security
Your Loop API token is stored securely by Tapcart and is never sent to customer devices
Each portal link is generated for the signed-in customer only
Before you begin
Loop plan with API access. You need access to Loop's Admin API.
Shopify customer accounts in the app. Customers must be able to sign in to your Tapcart app. Loop matches the shopper by their Shopify customer account.
Selling plans. Your subscription products must have Loop selling plans attached in Shopify.
App version. Your app must be on Tapcart app version 23.0 or later. Your Tapcart team can confirm your current version.
One subscription provider per app. If another subscription integration (for example Recharge) is enabled on the app, Tapcart will turn it off when Loop is connected.
How to Connect Loop + Tapcart
Loop setup in Tapcart is assisted. Contact your Tapcart Implementation Specialist, CSM, or [email protected].
Step 1: Create a Loop Admin API token
In your Loop admin, go to Developer → API tokens and create a new token
Name it Tapcart
Grant read and write access to Customers, and read access to Subscriptions
Save the token and copy it
Step 2: Share the token with Tapcart
Item | Example / notes |
Loop Admin API token | From Loop Developer → API tokens. Share it through a secure channel your Tapcart team provides. Don't paste it in chat or email. |
Test subscriber | A customer email on your store with an active Loop subscription, used to confirm the setup |
Tapcart stores the token, turns on the loop subscription integration for your app, and refreshes your app's settings.
Step 3: Enable Subscription Checkouts
Navigate to Settings within the Tapcart dashboard
Scroll down to the Cart & Checkout section
Enable the Allow Subscription Checkouts toggle and Save
Step 4: Add the Subscription Selector to the Product Page
Navigate to App Studio → Screens within the Tapcart dashboard
Select Product Detail from the Screen dropdown
Search for Subscription Selector in the block bank
Drag it into your product detail page (for example above the Add to Cart button)
Configure the block settings as needed, then Publish
Step 5: Add the Subscription Portal Button to the Account screen
In App Studio → Screens, open your customer Account screen
Search for Subscription Portal Button in the block bank and drag it into place
On the Signed In tab, set the button text (default Manage Subscriptions). Then choose whether customers with no subscriptions see a disabled button or no button.
On the Signed Out tab, set the sign-in button text (default Sign In)
Style the button with your brand colors, then Publish
What Customers Will See
Product page: subscription options from the Subscription Selector. The customer picks one-time or subscribe-and-save before adding to cart.
Account screen (signed in, subscriber): a Manage Subscriptions button. Tapping it opens the Loop subscriber portal inside the app, already signed in.
Account screen (signed in, no subscriptions): a disabled No Subscriptions Found button, or nothing, depending on your setting
Account screen (signed out): a Sign In button that opens the app's login, then shows the subscription button
A customer counts as a subscriber when they have at least one active or paused Loop subscription.
What You Can Do
Customers can do everything inside the in-app portal that your Loop subscriber portal offers on the web. You control this in Loop. Typical actions include:
View upcoming orders and order history
Skip or reschedule the next order
Swap products or change quantities
Change delivery frequency
Update the shipping address or payment method
Pause, resume, or cancel a subscription
Troubleshooting
If a customer can't find or open their subscriptions, confirm that:
The Subscription Portal Button has been added to the Account screen and published
The customer is signed in to the same account that holds the Loop subscription
The subscription is active or paused. Customers with only cancelled subscriptions see the no-subscriptions state.
The Loop API token is still valid in Loop (a deleted or rotated token stops the portal from opening). If you rotated it, send Tapcart the new token.
The app is on version 23.0 or later
Confirm your integration is working
After Tapcart connects Loop:
Sign in to the app as your test subscriber
Open the Account screen. The Manage Subscriptions button should appear.
Tap it. The Loop portal should open with that customer's subscriptions, with no login prompt.
Sign in as a customer with no subscription and confirm the no-subscriptions state
Add a subscription product to cart and confirm the selling plan carries through to checkout
