Seal Subscriptions + Tapcart

What is Seal Subscriptions?

Seal Subscriptions is a Shopify subscription app for subscribe-and-save products, recurring memberships and prepaid plans. Seal includes a hosted customer portal where subscribers manage their orders. Tapcart integrates with Seal so your app's signed-in customers can open their Seal customer portal inside the app, without a second login.

Why Seal + Tapcart?

Shoppers can buy subscriptions in your app and manage them without leaving it. Tapcart signs the customer in to Seal's portal on their behalf, so it opens already showing their subscriptions.

What functionality does the Seal integration unlock?

Subscription purchasing

  • Subscribe-and-save and membership options on the product page through Shopify Selling Plans

  • Mixed carts of one-time and subscription products

  • Checkout through your standard Shopify checkout

Subscription management

  • A Manage Subscriptions button on the customer's account screen

  • One tap opens the customer's Seal customer portal inside the app, already signed in, with no magic-link email

  • Everything your Seal portal allows (skip, reschedule, change products, edit address, cancel and more) works exactly as it does on your website

  • Signed-out customers see a Sign In button instead. Signed-in customers with no subscriptions see a disabled No Subscriptions Found button, or no button, depending on your settings.

Security

  • Your Seal API token is stored securely by Tapcart and is never sent to customer devices

  • Each portal link is generated for the signed-in customer only

Before you begin

  1. Seal API enabled. Seal's API must be switched on and stay switched on (see Step 1). If it's turned off, the portal button stops working for every customer.

  2. Matching emails. Seal finds a customer's subscriptions by email. The email on the customer's Shopify account must match the email on their Seal subscription.

  3. Shopify customer accounts in the app. Customers must be able to sign in to your Tapcart app.

  4. Selling plans. Your subscription products must have Seal selling plans attached in Shopify.

  5. App version. Your app must be on Tapcart app version 23.3 or later. Your Tapcart team can confirm your current version.

  6. One subscription provider per app. If another subscription integration (for example Recharge) is enabled on the app, Tapcart will turn it off when Seal is connected.

How to Connect Seal + Tapcart

Seal setup in Tapcart is assisted. Contact your Tapcart Implementation Specialist, CSM, or [email protected].

Step 1: Enable the Seal API and copy your token

  1. In the Seal app in Shopify, go to Settings → General Settings → API

  2. Make sure the API is enabled

  3. Copy the API token. Only the token is needed, not the API secret.

Step 2: Share the token with Tapcart

Item

Example / notes

Seal API token

From Seal Settings → General Settings → API. Share it through a secure channel your Tapcart team provides. Don't paste it in chat or email.

Tapcart stores the token, turns on the seal subscription integration for your app, and refreshes your app's settings.

Step 3: Enable Subscription Checkouts

  1. Navigate to Settings within the Tapcart dashboard

  2. Scroll down to the Cart & Checkout section

  3. Enable the Allow Subscription Checkouts toggle and Save

Step 4: Add the Subscription Selector to the Product Page

  1. Navigate to App Studio → Screens within the Tapcart dashboard

  2. Select Product Detail from the Screen dropdown

  3. Search for Subscription Selector in the block bank

  4. Drag it into your product detail page (for example above the Add to Cart button)

  5. Configure the block settings as needed, then Publish

Step 5: Add the Subscription Portal Button to the Account screen

  1. In App Studio → Screens, open your customer Account screen

  2. Search for Subscription Portal Button in the block bank and drag it into place

  3. On the Signed In tab, set the button text (default Manage Subscriptions). Then choose whether customers with no subscriptions see a disabled button or no button.

  4. On the Signed Out tab, set the sign-in button text (default Sign In)

  5. Style the button with your brand colors, then Publish

Step 6 (optional): Style the Seal portal

The in-app portal is Seal's customer portal, so you style it in Seal:

  • Settings → Customer portal for layout and which actions customers can take

  • Translations for button and label wording

  • General Settings → Advanced → Custom CSS for colors and fonts

What Customers Will See

  • Product page: subscription options from the Subscription Selector. The customer picks one-time or subscribe-and-save before adding to cart.

  • Account screen (signed in, subscriber): a Manage Subscriptions button. Tapping it opens the Seal customer portal inside the app, already signed in.

  • Account screen (signed in, no subscriptions): a disabled No Subscriptions Found button, or nothing, depending on your setting

  • Account screen (signed out): a Sign In button that opens the app's login, then shows the subscription button

A customer counts as a subscriber while they have a Seal subscription that hasn't expired. That includes active and paused subscriptions, and cancelled ones that haven't reached the end of their term, so a customer who cancels a prepaid plan can still reach the portal until it ends.

What You Can Do

Customers can do everything inside the in-app portal that your Seal customer portal offers on the web. You control this in Seal. Typical actions include:

  • View upcoming orders and order history

  • Skip or reschedule the next order

  • Change products, quantities or delivery frequency

  • Update the shipping address or payment method

  • Pause, resume, or cancel a subscription

Troubleshooting

If a customer can't find or open their subscriptions, confirm that:

  • The Seal API is still enabled in Seal Settings → General Settings → API. This is the most common cause. When it's off, no signed-in customer sees the portal button.

  • The Subscription Portal Button has been added to the Account screen and published

  • The customer is signed in with the same email that's on their Seal subscription

  • The subscription hasn't expired

  • The Seal API token hasn't been regenerated. If it has, send Tapcart the new token.

  • The app is on version 23.3 or later. Older app versions don't show the button.

Confirm your integration is working

After Tapcart connects Seal:

  1. Sign in to the app as your test subscriber

  2. Open the Account screen. The Manage Subscriptions button should appear.

  3. Tap it. The Seal portal should open with that customer's subscriptions, with no login prompt or magic-link email.

  4. Sign in as a customer with no subscription and confirm the no-subscriptions state

  5. Add a subscription product to cart and confirm the selling plan carries through to checkout
