Migrating your Apple Developer Account

Migrating Your Apple Developer Account from Individual to Organization

Tapcart requires your Apple Developer account to be enrolled as a Company/Organization. If your account is currently registered as an Individual or Sole Proprietor, you'll need to migrate it before we can submit your app. This guide walks you through the process.

In this article:

  • Why the migration is necessary

  • Prerequisites

  • Step-by-step migration process

  • What to expect after submitting

Why Is This Required?

Individual Apple Developer accounts don't support team member invitations with Admin roles. Since Tapcart needs Admin access to manage your app builds, metadata, and submissions, we can only work with Company/Organization accounts. This is an Apple restriction, not a Tapcart limitation.

Prerequisites

  • Legal entity: Your business must be a Corporation, LLC, or Limited Partnership. If you're a sole proprietor, you'll need to register as a legal entity with your state/jurisdiction before Apple will approve the migration.

  • D-U-N-S Number: You'll need an activated D-U-N-S Number registered to your legal entity.

  • Account Holder access: You must be logged in as the Account Holder (owner) of the Apple Developer account.

Migration Steps

  1. Navigate to developer.apple.com/account and log in with your Apple ID.

  2. Select Membership in the left sidebar.

  3. At the bottom of the Membership page, click "Need to edit this information?"

  4. In the pop-up, select "Provide your new organization information".

  5. Complete the "Individual to Organization Membership Update" form:

    • Legal entity name (must match your DUNS record exactly)

    • D-U-N-S Number

    • Organization address and contact information

  6. Review your information and Submit.

What to Expect After Submitting

  • Confirmation email: Apple will send a confirmation that your migration request has been received.

  • Processing time: Apple typically reviews migration requests within 24โ€“48 hours, but may take longer if additional verification is required.

  • Verification call: Apple may call the phone number on your DUNS record to verify your identity and business. Make sure that number is reachable.

  • Existing apps: Your existing apps and their App Store listings are preserved during the migration. There is no downtime or impact to your live apps.

  • After approval: Once migrated, you'll be able to invite team members (including Tapcart) with Admin roles. Proceed to Inviting Tapcart to Your Apple Developer Account.

Important: During the migration review period, you cannot submit new app builds. Plan accordingly and let your Implementation Specialist know you're going through a migration so we can adjust timelines.
