What is Shopify Markets?
Shopify Markets is a comprehensive tool for managing cross-border sales, allowing you to identify, set up, launch, optimize, and manage your international markets from a single storefront. When connected to Tapcart, it powers multi-currency pricing and automatic language switching based on your customer's device settings.

What is Multi-Currency?
Multi-currency allows the user to select their desired currency/country. Once the currency/country is selected, the app pulls in the specific pricing details associated with the currency/country and adjusts the price field accordingly. You can turn on multi-currency in the app’s settings tab under store settings. For more information on multi-currency check out our guide here.
Once multi-currency is enabled, the currency/country selector displays in the app's left navigation menu.
How Customers Experience Shopify Markets
The app automatically detects a customer's device locale and language and matches it to the closest market you've configured in Shopify. If no match is found, the app falls back to your default market.
Customer's Device Setting | Market Configured in Shopify | What the Customer Sees |
Mexico / Spanish | Mexico — Pesos / Spanish | Pesos + Spanish |
Portugal / Portuguese | Not configured | Default — USD / English |
Customers can also manually switch their currency at any time using the Currency Selector screen in the app.
Setup
Step 1: Configure Markets in Shopify
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Markets
Set up the markets, currencies, and regions you want to support
Set up languages via Settings → Languages in Shopify
Once you add a language, import or add translations using the Translate & Adapt app or a third-party translation app
Make sure your languages match the markets you've configured — for example, if you've set up a Mexico market, add Spanish as a language

Step 2: Enable Multi-Currency in Tapcart
Log in to your Tapcart dashboard and go to Settings
Under Store Settings, enable Allow multi-currency
Step 3: Customize the Currency Selector Screen
Once multi-currency is enabled, a Currency Selector screen becomes available in App Studio. This is where customers can manually switch their currency and market. You can customize the background color and font styling of this screen to match your brand.
To access it, hover over App Studio, select Screens, and choose Currency Selector from the screen dropdown.
Considerations
Your users have the ability to change the app’s Market based on the left menu Currency picker
Your app will not be translated if Shopify does not support the language (supported languages)
Currently, the app will not automatically translate the left menu, multi-page titles, custom block headers, or integration headers like Nosto or Review. This capability is coming soon!
