How to Accept a Collaborator Request

As part of your app launch process, the Tapcart team will need access to your Shopify store via a collaborator request. This allows our Implementation Team to assist with integrations, design, and troubleshooting. After launch, the support team may also need to request access if it's not already setup so we can troubleshoot or review issues. This guide covers how to approve the request and what permissions are involved.

In this article:

  • How to approve the request

What is a Collaborator Request?

A collaborator request is a Shopify feature that allows third-party partners to request access to your store without needing full staff login credentials. When Tapcart sends a collaborator request, it shows up in your Shopify admin as a notification for you to review and approve.

Important: This is a Shopify-side action. You'll approve this within your Shopify admin, not in the Tapcart dashboard.

How to Approve the Request

  1. Your Implementation Specialist or Customer Support rep will let you know once the collaborator request has been sent.

  2. Log in to your Shopify admin at yourstorename.myshopify.com/admin.

  3. Look for a pop-up banner at the top of the page prompting you to review the collaborator request.

  4. Click the banner and approve the permissions.

  5. If you don't see the banner, click the bell icon (Notifications/Alerts) in the top-right corner of your Shopify admin. You should see a pending collaborator request there.

  6. Confirm with your Implementation Specialist that the request has been approved.

What Permissions Does Tapcart Need?

Tapcart's collaborator request includes specific Shopify permissions so our team can support your app launch and ongoing maintenance:

Permission

Why it's needed

Products

To verify product sync between Shopify and your app

Themes

To troubleshoot checkout and storefront integration issues

Apps

To verify the Tapcart app installation and integration settings

Orders

To help troubleshoot checkout and order-related issues

Customers

To assist with customer account and tag-related testing

Tapcart only requests the minimum permissions needed to support your app. We do not make changes to your store without your knowledge.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the collaborator request

  • Check the Notifications bell icon in the top-right of your Shopify admin

  • Check your email inbox (including spam) for a notification from Shopify

  • Ask your Implementation Specialist to confirm the request was sent to the correct store URL

  • Make sure you're logged in as the store owner β€” staff accounts may not have permission to approve collaborator requests

I accidentally declined the request

  • Let your Implementation Specialist know and they'll re-send the collaborator request

I need to revoke or modify access later

  • Go to Settings β†’ Users and permissions in your Shopify admin. You can manage or remove Tapcart's collaborator access at any time.
