How to Accept a Collaborator Request

What is a Collaborator Request?

As part of your app launch, and sometimes later for support, the Tapcart team needs access to your Shopify store through a collaborator request. That lets Implementation or Support help with integrations, design, and troubleshooting without a full staff login. You approve the request in Shopify, not in the Tapcart dashboard.

A collaborator request is a Shopify feature that lets a partner (like Tapcart) request access to your store without sharing staff login credentials. After Tapcart submits the request, it appears in your Shopify admin for you to review and approve.

If Tapcart asks for a collaborator request code

Most of the time, Tapcart can send the request without extra steps from you. Some stores are set so that only people with a 4-digit collaborator request code can submit a request. If your Implementation Specialist or Support rep asks for that code, share it so they can send the request.

To find the code:

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Users (some stores still label this Users and permissions).

  2. Open the Collaborators section.

  3. Copy the 4-digit collaborator request code and send it to your Tapcart contact.

You only need to do this if Tapcart cannot submit the request without it.

How to Approve the Request

  1. Your Implementation Specialist or Support rep will let you know once the collaborator request has been sent.

  2. Log in to your Shopify admin.

  3. Go to Settings → Users and open Collaborators. Pending requests are listed there.

  4. Open the Tapcart request, review the permissions, and accept. You can reduce permissions before you accept if you want a narrower role.

  5. If you do not see it under Collaborators, check for a banner at the top of Shopify admin, the notification bell, or an email from Shopify.

  6. Confirm with your Tapcart contact that the request is approved.

You need permission to manage users in Shopify to approve the request. Store owners can always do this. Staff without that permission cannot.

What Permissions Does Tapcart Need?

Tapcart's collaborator request includes specific Shopify permissions so our team can support your app launch, troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance. These may include:

Permission

Why it's needed

Products

To verify product sync between Shopify and your app

Themes

To troubleshoot checkout and storefront integration issues

Apps

To verify the Tapcart app installation and integration settings

Orders

To help troubleshoot checkout and order-related issues

Customers

To assist with customer account and tag-related testing

Tapcart only requests the permissions needed to support your app. We do not make changes to your store without your knowledge.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the collaborator request

  • Check Settings → Users → Collaborators for a pending request

  • Check the notification bell in Shopify admin, and your email (including spam) for a message from Shopify

  • Ask your Tapcart contact to confirm the request was sent to the correct store URL

  • If they cannot send the request, they may need your 4-digit collaborator request code from the Collaborators section

  • Make sure you are logged in with a user who can manage users in Shopify

I accidentally declined the request

  • Let your Implementation Specialist or Support rep know and they will send the collaborator request again

I need to revoke or modify access later

  • Go to Settings → Users → Collaborators in your Shopify admin. You can change permissions or remove Tapcart's collaborator access at any time.
