Push A/B Testing in Tapcart lets you send two versions of the same push campaign to see which one your shoppers open more. Instead of guessing which copy will land, you can make data-driven decisions about your messaging.
Push A/B Testing is only available for our Enterprise merchants.
What is Push A/B Testing?
Push A/B Testing lets you compare two versions of the same push campaign:
Variant A (Control): the copy you would have sent anyway.
Variant B (Test): the new version you want to try (e.g., a different title, message, or image).
Your audience is split between the two versions when the push goes out, and each shopper receives exactly one. Tapcart tracks open rate, sends, sessions, purchases, and revenue for each variant.
How to Run a Push A/B Test
Create a Campaign
Go to Engage → Push → Create Campaign.
Choose your audience, channel, destination, and schedule. These are shared by both variants.
Turn On A/B Testing
Click A/B test this push. An A | B switch and a traffic split slider will appear.
Write Your Variants
With A selected, write your control copy.
Switch to B and write your alternative. The two variants must be different.
On a custom push, you can upload a different image for each variant. Product and collection pushes use the same product image for both.
Set Traffic Split
Choose how your audience is divided between A and B (default is 50/50).
Send the Test
Schedule or send your campaign. Both variants go out together.
The test appears in Campaign History as a single campaign with A/B badges.
Get Results
Click View results in Campaign History, or go to Insights → Experiments and filter by Push.
Results settle 72 hours after the last send, since shoppers often open a push long after it arrives. Until then, the verdict is marked as preliminary.
A test needs at least 30 opens per variant to call a winner.
Apply What You Learn
Both versions have already been sent, so there is no winner to publish. Use the winning approach in your next campaign.
Good to Know
Editing: You can edit a test while it is still scheduled. Once sending starts, it can no longer be changed.
Traffic split: The split can't be changed after the test is created.
Existing campaigns: A scheduled campaign can't be turned into a test. Duplicate it and turn on A/B testing on the copy.
Ending a test: A test can't be turned back into a single push. To stop it, delete it from Campaign History.
Best Practices
Send to a large audience: Small segments may never reach 30 opens per variant and will stay at "Collecting data."
Change one thing at a time: If the title, message, and image all differ, you won't know which change made the difference.
Make noticeable changes: Nearly identical copy will likely lead to inconclusive results. Try a real difference in angle (e.g., urgency vs. curiosity).
Let it finish: Wait for the 72-hour window to close before drawing conclusions.
Why This Matters
With Push A/B Testing, you can now:
Learn what your shoppers actually respond to, instead of relying on instinct.
Improve open rates and revenue on every campaign with continuous optimization.
